What is California Guard Card & how to get a CA. Guard Card?

A guard card, also known as guard registration is a government issued permit/license which allows a person to legally work within the security industry here in the State of California. If your security position involves protecting people or property and you interact with the general public you must by law obtain a guard card or you and or your employer will suffer criminal penalties as well as greater civil liability. As of 2011 state law now requires all Security Officers and companies employing a security staff to register with the BSIS. The guard card itself is a credit card size paper permit issued by the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) which is a government run licensing and regulatory agency under the California Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA). It is issued only after you complete the requirements set by law, which typically is a eight hour training course which goes over basic arrest powers as well as Terrorism and Weapons of Mass Destruction. A valid California Guard Card is good for two years and must be renewed with 60 days of expiration in order to continue working security with California. read more »
