In order to obtain a California Guard Registraition Permit also known as a Guard Card you have to complete three (3) steps below. To view a video explaining the process and steps please click here.
STEP ONE: Take the PTA/WMD's BSIS approved course online or In-Person...

You will have to complete the state required training course titled "Powers to Arrest and Weapons of Mass Destruction/Terrorism Awareness" You can complete the course online by clicking here or in a live setting at our security and firearms training center. If you take the course online you will be able to complete the course at your own pace anywhere you have internet access. Otherwise you can complete the course in a classroom setting with one of our instructor at our training center.
STEP TWO: Get livescanned also known as electronic fingerprinting...

Once you successfully complete the "Powers to Arrest and Weapons of Mass Destruction/Terrorism Awareness" course and received your course certificate you will need start your criminal background check. You can locate the nearest livescan center by visiting this website or contacting your local police department and ask them if they provide the Live Scan Service. The live scan provider will ask for you live scan forms, they will fill out the bottom portion of the forms by providing your background number also known as an ATI number.
STEP THREE: Submit your Application to the State...

After successfully compleing the course and compleing the fingerprint process through livescan, you can then submit your applicationi for a Security Guard Registraition Card online or by mail. If you submit application online through this link your application will processed in as little as 2-10 business days on adverage. You can also mail in the application to the The Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) and the process on adverage will take 2-6 weeks.
Wait for your approval!

If you complete all the steps in order and successfully submit your application you then just have wait for your guard card approval online and by mail. It takes an adverage of 2-10 business days for your guard registraiton to show up on the state verification website. Click here for the verification website. Once your Security Guard Card Registraion is approved on the internet you can then print out the temporary card and use this to start working. Your hard copy original guardcard will be mailed to you by the State.

firearm exposed and loaded! The training consist of a lecture course,
handgun safety, and range qualification. Keep in mind that you once you
obtain your Exposed Firearms Permit you will have to re-qualify every
4-6 months with a licensed BUREAU OF SECURITY AND INVESTIGATIVE SERVICES
(BSIS) Instructor.
